As one half of the duo behind The Golden Duck (TGD), Chris has taken a hands-on approach to the company’s daily operations since its inception in 2015. The 27-year-old started off doing everything from slicing potatoes, and packing and delivering snacks, to selling them at the brand’s first pop-up at Suntec City in the same year it was launched.
The serial entrepreneur started his first business at the age of 18, going on to launch various ventures in media, nightlife and F&B all while concurrently studying at one of Asia’s top legal colleges. Learning many important business lessons for his next venture, he decided to leave his legal studies to fully concentrate on establishing TGD as a leading gourmet snacks player. One of the biggest lessons Chris has learnt is that the success of a business relies on the efforts of a team. Nurturing talent and cultivating a fun work environment are thus top priorities for him.
Today, Chris helms TGD’s operations, leading an over 200-strong team he works closely with to ensure that the brand continues to innovate. He strives to push the limits of what a gourmet snack brand can achieve by devoting his time to sourcing quality ingredients, procuring specialised machinery and obsessively experimenting in TGD’s kitchens to create exciting new flavours.
Chris – together with Jonathan – was recognised by Forbes’ 30 Under 30 2017 as one of the top business minds in Asia and by Emerging Enterprise Award 2017 for Most Promising Start Up. Chris seeks to shake up the snack industry with his imaginative streak, showcasing TGD’s range of innovative gourmet flavours to snackers all around the world.
